Hey there!

Welcome to Sa Happen; my weekly compilation of the major events that shaped conversations in Nigeria. You can expect some information on recent politics, policies, and controversies. You should totally expect some mischief too😉 .

First things first, how much do you spend on perfumes? Fragrance for your homes? body sprays? I reckon you don’t spend billions. Or do you? 🤔

Last week started with rumors of the Lagos state government allegedly allocating 3.75 billion naira to perfumes and rechargeable fans.

Sanwo-Olu Babajide- Lagos State Governor

And because Lagos State has a government that communicates 🤭 the Governor explained it all; it's a mistake from the website used to document the allocations. No cause for alarm! In fact, the Governor explained that this wonderful website has a way of changing figures from millions to billions. So, instead of say, 2 million naira for perfumes, the website records it as 2 billion naira. So, again, no cause for alarm.

Anyway, speaking of billions, the Minister of Works, David Umahi has a plan that will revive the Ajaokuta Steel factory and also give us good roads.

David Umahi

This grand plan will cost us 35 billion and not in naira, I am afraid. The plan is to get the steel factory working enough to produce the steel that will be needed for the construction of concrete roads.

Meanwhile, the economy is still turning-on-it-own, food prices are skyrocketing, fuel price is climbing, and this economy is looking like Bubu’s economy was child’s play.

By the way, Bubu showed up on an interview to update us on his new life. One would have thought that he would miss us, after showing us so much shege. Can you believe that Bubu says he doesn't miss us?

Bubu- a bad boy.

After all we have shared together; the naira crunch, insecurity, bad economy, forced farming… to think he would just forget us. Haba Bubu! 😞

Still reeling from Bubu’s heartbreaking interview, uneasy winds blew into Kano. A copy of the Certified True Copy from the Appeal Court’s judgment on the Kano guber elections miraculously circulated. In it, let’s just say, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP was supposed to remain the Governor.

Borrowed from Zikoko!

Recall that the Appeal court sacked Abba two weeks ago, favoring APC’s Gawuna. In response to this discrepancy in what is documented and what was announced, the court said that the judgment in the CTC was a clerical error.

Thankfully, nothing of worry happened in Kano.

Actually, something of worry has been happening in Kano, Kaduna, and even, Abuja. This time of the year, harmattan winds should be reaching us. Instead, rain has been falling? in late November? But there is also dust and cold. There is also heat too.

Is this climate change?

Ah, and yes, something has been changing in the FCT of A.

Wike, FCT’s new sheriff

Sarkin Abuja, Wike, has initiated a recertification fee. Landowners in Abuja with legitimate certificates of occupancies would have to come along with their national identity cards, and their bank verification numbers to recertify. They would also have to pay fifty thousand naira if the land is owned by an individual and a hundred thousand naira for land owned by corporate bodies.

So much drama in one week. We need a Netflix series just for Nigeria. What should we name our show?

Outside the borders of Nigeria, we had riots in Dublin, Ireland. Citizens were calling for immigrants to be sent home.

To buttress their point, they took to burning buses and vehicles, looting, and even throwing fireworks at the police (laughs in Nigerian police)

We urge Nigerians in Dublin to keep safe.

We also have a ceasefire in Gaza. It started on Friday morning, when for the first time in seven weeks, Israel is not killing Palestine’s women and children. Read more about the ceasefire and hostage releases here

That’s it from me! Do you think I missed anything? Do let me know in the comments.
