Hey there!

Welcome to Sa Happen; my weekly compilation of the major events that shaped conversations in Nigeria. You can expect some information on recent politics, policies, and controversies. You should totally expect some mischief too😉 .

Entering into a new week can be quite promising. You begin to think of all the possible light the new week can bring. Well, at least most people will, except for MTN subscribers.

Last week, MTN subscribers woke up to a glitch, but they did not know it was a glitch. They thought that MTN had ‘forgiven’ their borrowed airtime, data etc, and had taken to social media to praise the telecom company. That was how MTN was like, for here?

It was a glitch. Every MTN subscriber who owes MTN is still owing MTN.

Meanwhile, and I should add that this is not our business but, what’s up with Aliko Dangote of the Dangote Group and Abdulsamad Rabiu of BUA?

One day they are chummy, the next they are not and their back and forth is older than I am. For nearly three decades, the BUA mogul has accused Dangote of conducting business in unethical ways and Dangote has maintained that it is jealousy and envy. Whatever the case, I personally feel like we should not be putting mouth in wealthy people’s fights. Why?

Because we have bigger problems, like how the naira is still doing tinini tanana 😢

Naira that went down to 900 to a dollar, is now 1000+ to a dollar. What did we carry? what did we throw? How will we feed in this current economy?

Although the naira is not making us feel very patriotic at the moment, Nigerian musicians are making it a little easier to identify as Nigerians.

Arya Starr, Asake, Davido, Olamide, and Burna Boy are on the Grammy nominee list! If our economy won’t make us a global force, at least our music will. Fingers crossed that they bring home the awards. Check out the full list here.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo had their off-cycle elections and it was as good as you would expect. Small violence here and there, a bit of kidnapping, a pinch of gunshot, a little vote buying… nothing out of the ordinary. We await the results and wish all three states the best.

P.S. Remember to stay safe and hydrated wherever you are. Also, try to manage your finances, for the economy is dark and full of terrors.

If you think I missed out on a major event, please share in the comments. Also, read the last edition of Sa Happen here.

Till next weekend, cheers!
